Brittany Platt Gardner, cellist

Brittany Platt Gardner began her cello studies at the age of eight after receiving a cello as a birthday present.

An avid teacher, Ms Gardner has maintained a private cello studio for many years, as well as teaching with The Gifted Music School, the Barbara Kehoe Music School, Peaks to Plains Suzuki Institute, Intermountain Suzuki String Institute, and as a guest teacher with the Preparatory Department at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

She is a much sought-after clinician and speaker, and as such has presented workshops and clinics at Utah Valley University, El Sistema Utah, The Suzuki Association of the Americas, The Arizona Suzuki Association, and The Suzuki Association of Utah.

Ms. Gardner is on faculty at the Gifted Music School, where she also serves as the Suzuki Program Coordinator. She also serves on the board of Intermountain Suzuki String Institute and has been on the conference committee for both the 2012 and 2014 biannual conferences of the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Ms. Gardner remains an active performer in the community, appearing with such groups as the Utah Symphony, Sinfonia Salt Lake, and chamber groups with the Intermezzo Chamber Series, among others. She recently retired from the Orchestra at Temple Square, where she served as Associate Principal Cellist for ten years.

Ms Gardner holds a Master of Music degree in Cello Performance from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Anthony Elliott. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance, graduating summa cum laude from the joint degree program between Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Richard Aaron.

She and her husband, Matthew, live in Salt Lake City with their two daughters: a 9-yr-old violinist and an 8-yr-old cellist.

Ms. Gardner plays on a 2001 cello, affectionately known as "Henry", made by contemporary luthier Lawrence Wilke.
